Referral Program Terms
How Refer and earn works: who can invite and be invited, when a referral counts, what each side receives, and the rules that keep it fair.
Updated October 29, 2026 · 7 min read
Short version: share your own link or code with people who are new to NOWScale. When someone you invited pays for a plan and that payment stands through the hold period, you both receive what the invite showed. Be honest about the reward when you share, and do not invite yourself. The operative text below governs.
1. About these terms
These Referral Program Terms (the “Referral Terms”) govern Refer and earn (the “Program”), operated by NOWScale LLC. They supplement our Terms of Service, which continue to apply, and capitalised terms not defined here have the meaning given there. If these Referral Terms and the Terms of Service conflict on the Program, these Referral Terms govern. Taking part is optional.
The specific offer, reward, hold period, attribution window, yearly limit and expiry for an invite (the “Program Details”) are shown on the invite page and in Settings > Account > Refer and earn, and form part of these Referral Terms. The Program Details in force when a friend accepts an invite stay fixed for that referral, even if we later change them for new invites.
2. Definitions
- Referrer: an account holder who shares their own invite link or code.
- Friend: a person who accepts a Referrer’s invite or enters their code.
- Referral: the record that connects one Friend to one Referrer.
- Qualifying Payment: the Friend’s first payment that the Program Details count, as described in section 6.
- Hold Period: the time after a Qualifying Payment during which the payment must stand before the Referrer’s reward unlocks.
3. Who can take part
3.1 Referrers
You can refer while your account is in good standing, its email address is verified, and you meet any further condition the Program Details state, such as holding a paid plan or having paid for a minimum number of days. Each person has one invite link and one code. Codes are generated by NOWScale or assigned by our staff; they do not change when you change your username.
3.2 Friends
A Friend must be a different person from the Referrer and must meet the Program Details, which may require a new NOWScale account, an account that has never paid NOWScale, or both. A code entered after sign-up still counts for a new account when the account is younger than the attribution window.
3.3 Availability
We may offer the Program to selected accounts first, and we may pause new invites at any time. While invites are paused, referrals already recorded continue under these Referral Terms.
4. How a referral is recorded
- Opening an invite link records nothing. Only choosing Accept invite on the invite page keeps the invite, in a cookie in the Friend’s browser that lasts thirty (30) days, so it can be connected to the account the Friend creates or signs in with. See our Cookie Policy.
- A Friend can also enter a code when signing up or before Checkout.
- Each Friend has one Referrer. Until the Friend’s first payment, a code the Friend enters replaces an earlier invite or code; a later invite link never does. After the first payment, the Referral is fixed.
- The Friend must make the Qualifying Payment within the attribution window that the Program Details state, counted from accepting the invite. A Referral without one by then ends.
5. The Friend’s offer
The Program Details may give the Friend a one-time discount on their first payment (one percentage for a monthly plan and one for a yearly plan), their first month free, or bonus Tokens. A discount applies at Checkout automatically on the plans it covers. It cannot be combined with a free trial, a gift or another promotion code: one payment carries one discount. Bonus Tokens are added with the Friend’s first paid plan, last for one year, and are subject to section 5.5 of the Terms of Service. If the Qualifying Payment is refunded or reversed, we may remove bonus Tokens that have not been used.
6. When a referral qualifies
The Friend’s first payment decides the Referral. It qualifies when it is more than zero, made within the attribution window, and for a purchase the Program Details count (by Personal or Business plan, by monthly or yearly billing, and Token top-ups only when the Program Details say so). If the Friend’s first payment is for a purchase the Program Details do not count, the Referral ends without a reward.
The Referrer’s reward unlocks when the Hold Period ends, provided the Qualifying Payment has not been refunded, has not been lost in a chargeback and has not failed. While a chargeback is open, the reward waits for its outcome.
7. The Referrer’s reward
7.1 What you can receive
The Program Details state the reward: account credit worth one month of the Friend’s plan (up to the plan the Program Details name), credit worth one month of your own plan, a fixed credit amount, or Tokens. Tokens are added at once, last for one year, and are subject to section 5.5 of the Terms of Service. Where the Program Details say so, a reward worth one month of a plan is given to a Referrer on the free plan as one complimentary month of that plan, added at once, instead of credit; if that month cannot be added, you receive the credit.
7.2 Account credit
- Credit is priced from NOWScale’s price list in the billing currency of the workspace it lands in. It is never converted at an exchange rate.
- Once that workspace has paid NOWScale, credit is added to its account balance and used against its next invoices. The balance is applied after tax, so credit worth one month may not cover a whole invoice that includes tax.
- If that workspace has never paid, the credit waits and is used as a one-time discount on its first Checkout, up to the amount of that payment before tax. Any rest is added to the balance after that payment.
- Credit that is still waiting, not yet added to a balance or used at Checkout, expires on the date the Program Details state.
- Credit has no cash value. It cannot be withdrawn, refunded, sold or transferred to another person.
7.3 Where rewards land
Rewards belong to you as a person. They land in your Personal workspace unless you choose a Business workspace you own as their destination.
7.4 Limits
The Program Details may limit how many rewards you can earn in a year. A Referral that qualifies after you reach that limit ends without a reward. We may wait to issue rewards while we check the Program for a fault or abuse; waiting rewards are issued once the check ends, unless section 8 applies.
8. Fair use
When you share your invite, you must not:
- refer yourself, through another account, another email address or someone acting for you;
- create or use fake, disposable or duplicate accounts, or pay on behalf of a Friend to earn a reward;
- send unsolicited messages or spam, or share your invite in a way the Acceptable Use Policy or the rules of the place you post it prohibit;
- bid on NOWScale names or trademarks in search or social advertising, or post your code on coupon or deal sites;
- present yourself as NOWScale or make claims about NOWScale that are false or misleading.
When you share your invite publicly, say clearly that you may earn a reward, in the language of your post. NOWScale never emails the people you invite on your behalf.
We check referrals for signs of abuse, such as two accounts sharing one mailbox, a disposable email address, a shared network or many sign-ups in a short time. A sign never ends a Referral on its own: a person on our staff reviews it before any reward. If we find a breach of these Referral Terms, we may decline or reverse the reward, cancel credit that is still waiting, and suspend your participation in the Program.
9. Privacy
The invite page shows the Friend the Referrer’s name. The Referrer sees each Friend’s first name, last initial, the date they joined and their status (joined, paid, in review, rewarded, not eligible or reversed), never their email address, plan or payment details. The invite page tells the Friend this before they accept. The signs of abuse in section 8 are stored only as yes or no answers, never the addresses or networks compared. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle this data.
10. Taxes
You are responsible for any tax that applies to rewards you receive. Credit reduces the amount we charge you; it is not a payment to you.
11. Changes and ending the Program
We may change these Referral Terms or the Program Details, or end the Program, at any time. Changes apply to invites accepted after they take effect; a Referral keeps the Program Details in force when its Friend accepted. If we end the Program, we will still issue the rewards of Referrals whose Qualifying Payment was made before the end date, under these Referral Terms. The “last updated” date at the top of this page shows when the current version took effect.
12. General
The Program is void where the law prohibits it. Rewards have no cash value. Section 19 of the Terms of Service (dispute resolution) applies to the Program. Questions about the Program can be sent to support@nowscale.com.
